Carp Are In!

Stream Report – Upper Manistee River and Boardman River

Brown drakes are starting as well. Emergences are now evenings from 7-9pm and spinnerfalls from 8-10pm. Cool temps have slowed the spinners, but fish are eating. Hatches are now nearly on track to a normal year. Lower Boardman river has brown drakes emerging and moving fish but it’s early for big numbers of fish to be in the river yet.

Flies Boardman June

Streamer fishing is fair as large predators are lurking in the depths below warming silt beds. We expect to see  spinners this week.

Lower Boardman River has smallmouth from the mouth to Union Street Dam. They’ll take most anything that passes them. They are very aggressive right now.

Carp are all over both arms of Grand Traverse Bay. Only a few smallmouth are mixed in. It’s still early in the carp season so many are still spawning and not yet interested in feeding on flies. But we’ve had several good days in the last week.
