FLY TYING – NEON CADDIS

January 25, 2021 • Forum, Tips, Upcoming Events

This pattern is one of the most durable, successful patterns for steelhead in Lake Michigan rivers. Post-spawn steelhead spend much of their days eating to replenish their strength before returning to Lake Michigan. The rhyacophia caddis is a common, bright chartreuse green larva that is readily available to these big rainbows. Tied on a lighter wire caddis hook, the Neon Caddis is also a very effective trout pattern. Green caddis are one of the steelhead’s favorite foods while in the river from November to April. These free-living caddis are available all year to fish and this pattern is bright and looks alive in the water.
